According to the set reporters on GB, they just blew up the sonic, perhaps a bit too effectively. Matt Smith appears to have injured his hand. *wonders if this means we will be getting an Eleven II* Hopefully he's ok.
I can give you a visual, at least - MS is in a Statue of Liberty-ish pose, holding the sonic skyward, then sparks start shooting out. It's impressive even without CGI, IMHO. By report, Smith appears to be ok. *breathes sigh of relief*
Sounds like a sparkler jammed in the end of the prop or something. Those things get damn hot, make no mistake. I'm impressed he didn't drop it, so long as he's ok.
