Where were you off to this time?

[identity profile] elrina753.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Sicily, with a stop in Greece (no layover boo) only to continue on to Bahrain, stop there for 12 hours and go back to Sicily via Greece. We kept telling the mechanics to break the plane as we'd never been to Greece *g*

No layover in Greece? What a crime! You must've been doing the military route again.

We were supposed to be in Turkey/Greece this summer, but the State Dept. put the kabash on that plan after Turkey invaded Iraq. So it's off to Chile/Argentina in October instead. Someday, we will both have gone to Greece.... *is wistful*

[identity profile] elrina753.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a crime. Especially since the Greek ground guys were all "Crete is wonderful, you should stay here because we are awesome" And it was military, it was part of the Norfolk - Terceira - Sicily - Crete - Bahrain - Djibouti shuttle. Where the Navy moves folks about.

Someday I will layover in Djibouti (pronounced Ji-booty) just to stay I've been to a place called Djibouti.

Why can't Turkey cooperate with your plans? Stupid war. It's that whole Kurd thing. *glares in their general direction* And someday we will both be there and Turkey will quit invading places. (although isn't Greece the capital for young drunk brits on holiday or something like that?)

Oh, another thing. I found out we have troops in Kenya, doing humanitarian aid. They were drilling wells and building schools but somehow the local newspapers got it in their head that drilling wells meant burying radioactive waste. The U.S. is now storing it's radioactive waste down water wells in Kenya. The more you know...

I want to say I've been to a place called Djibouti!

Turkey would have cooperated - the US Govt. wasn't. They were a bit anxious about the security detail for the top folks in the hubby's business. *grumbles* Had we been going on our own, we would have been fine.

Oh Kenya. *shakes head*

It's such a fun name for a country.

The government always ruins everyone's fun. Grrr.

I've been to Turkey once and was so impressed. I'm dying to go back but the U.S Military (surprise surprise) is trying not to route people through there unless they absolutely have to.

But on the upside... Chile and Argentina which I've heard SO MANY good things about.

Yeah, I was pretty bummed when I heard the trip was cancelled.

BUT... Chile and Argentina got moved up, so... *shrugs* Next years 'international' trip will be to Lana'i, Hawaii. Ireland was one of the other choices. *headdesk* I'm not bitter at all about that.

*raises eyebrow* "international" trip?

Maybe back in the 50's...

Too bad they didn't go with Ireland. Not that Hawaii isn't beautiful but still!

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. There's a lot of golfers in the group. *grumbles*

I know - been there already. Not to Lana'i, but still.... Ireland... could extend to London/Scotland very, very easily.... *grumbles some more*

Ugh. Golf. Most boring sport ever.

Of course, if they really wanted to Golf, they should go to Scotland. The land where golf was invented and with some of the best courses in the world. Also, the land of hot men that would work so well with your travel plans.

I think I had a post about Scottish men and their hotness awhile back. I should go revisit it and drool.

I've driven the occasional golf cart, but that's about where I'll draw the line. *grins*

*is part-Scottish and is in total agreement with you*
