(Catherine) Tate will reprise her role as assistant Donna Noble for one of the four specials planned for next year, while Life On Mars star Simm will return as villainous Time Lord The Master. The article quotes from the Sun, though, so big grain of salt recommended.

Original article: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/a129785/tate-simm-to-make-who-return.html

And here's the Sun article that they quote: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/article1659508.ece

They speculate that DT is 'close' to signing for the 2010 series. Whatever that might mean.

Yay! Well, cautious "yay," because it's the Sun.

This one's been out for a while now, but this is the first time I've seen Digital Spy report on it. As we're nearing the deadline for scripts to be finished up, it could very well be accurate. Although... I'll admit I'm more than a bit nervous about how they might plan to bring Simm back.

The Simm one has been going around awhile, though. I'm less likely to believe it, because he was supposed to have been in the last series.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Master back, just not as a raving loony again. The Doctor could use a proper adversary, as in the Pertwee/Delgado serials of old.

Yeah...in a sense i think the Master was a bit more complicated back then. He could be a perfectly charming psychopath, if a bit campy, but I think Time Lords just go for camp.

I liked the fact that he was very believably dangerous. I didn't get that with Simm's Master.

Yeah...although he wasn't bad, either. But I have a hard time believing something (read: anything) would crack the Master to a degree to produce Simm!Master. I think that's what scares me more about Delgado's Master: the character was sane.

You've put a finger on it there. A sane Master is incredibly scary. When did he start to crack - when he ran out of bodies? Maybe getting more regens makes one insane and that's why TLs don't go there?

The whole drums thing didn't really do it for me. I could see it being a post-resurrection type of thing, but before? Naw. I think I'd question the Doctor's sanity before the Master's.

Although I'm reading a NA novel--one of the ones with Benny--in which Braxiatel talks about how the Doctor (never named, but it's obvious it's him) scraped by, screwed around, and blew everything off as a deliberate guise so that people would underestimate him.

Sounds plausible. Which one are you reading?

It's Tears of the Oracle, by Justin Richards, specifically the part where Braxiatel's talking to the Oracle. I'm mostly reading it as research to get a handle on how to write pre-Pandora Brax. He's talking about how he got around the system by adhering to the rules:

"Now there was another approach I could have taken. More drastic, less patient. By the time my brother was doing his exams, I was already an unofficial ambassador, already off on missions the like of which nobody had ever dreamt of before. Making a great show of martyring myself to the necessity while actually relishing every moment of it. Making sure everyone else felt sorry for me that I had to do these terrible things rather than sit at home, cosy and safe for an eternity...First class degrees...I thought that was clever. But he made sure he scraped through with the barest minimum on the last permitted attempt. And they knew it. Forget getting a first, anyone can do that with a little diligence and application. But what he did took genius. And then he was off, physically. By leaving."

I want to be excited about Donna but at this point I think I've been jerked around by so many rumors that I'm not sure what to believe (was this planned or did the writers realize they screwed up with that ending to JE in regards to Donna?). Also, the Simm thing. What? He can come back, but the Tinkerbell!Doctor cannot come out to play.

Wow, am I cynical today or what? *g*

I think you just wanted to use that icon! *grins*

RTD has said many times that he refuses to write as dictated by the fans (a good thing overall), but I doubt he expected quite that response from the fandom in regards to Donna's fate. Here's hoping that if it happens, it doesn't get screwed up. And with you on the Tinkerbell!Doctor. Go watch that episode already! *laughs*

And where are we today?

It is a good icon. And I must show it off *nods*

Considering I want Donna back traveling with the Doctor... I'm not too sure how excited I am about this (because at the end of it all, she probably won't be back traveling with the Doctor. Damn you RTD). I will merely content myself with the thought that hopefully they'll deal with the Doctor taking her memories and she'll smack him one. And if I were to actually sit down and watch the Tinkerbell!Doctor episode, certain people would drop dead from shock. And because I like these certain people far too much to want them dead, I'm not watching it in the interests of keeping them alive.:)

New York, at the moment, so I can pack and clean. Very little of which is actually happening.

That's the thing - even if Donna is able to somehow come back, I'd want her back traveling in the TARDIS. As far as I know, that's not happening. So where does that leave things? *grumbles*

Can I have a happy ending for once? That's where I'd like to leave things. Although I think the writers get off on causing the Doctor pain (although I'd like to see more hurt/injured/sick Doctor because I am weird like that).

You know me, always thinking of others. :)

*happily receives the packing and cleaning fairies* I made a to-do list. I'm hoping the satisfaction of crossing things off the list helps inspires me to actually do them

Heh. Don't worry, Ten will get his snuggle. There's something that happened in THANTH that needs to be rectified, and it will be in the ice planet fic.

Well, in all fairness, THANTH was a bit over the top in that respect! Ten needs a little break! *grins* How about a snuggle and an almost-snuggle, then?

And yes, 'snuggles' is always preferable to 'snuggle', but Ten is going to be a little busy in the next one.

Over the top. Hardly! It was just right! :)

And since when do men need breaks from snuggles? They're usually the ones seeking them out, and Ten is rather physical... so, well, you know.

And it's not a question of needing a break from snuggles, quite the opposite, really. Ten will be in need of a snuggle and he's not going to get it. Poor, poor Ten. *pets him*

Me? Mean to Ten? Let's recall our previous comment: although I'd like to see more hurt/injured/sick Doctor because I am weird like that I rest my case! I iz innocent!

And mean to you? I dangled that beta offer, you know - although, you'd be very, very spoiled.

I'm still tentatively planning on posting part 1 of 'Not Here' on Wednesday - there might be a snuggle in that one. *grins*

Why yes, I did say that. Unlike politicians I stand by my statement! :) And yes, I do like to read it. But you're writing it! You did write it, THANTH ranks up there as one of the few fics I've read where the Doctor actually does get hurt/injured. I think we're both guilty here. :)

And you did dangle it, and I was tempted. But I'd probably be a horribly unreliable beta. I'm more of an enabler then a beta. :)

and that isn't a slash fic. Yeah, I didn't see what I wanted when reading, so I made my own. So there! XP Ice planet fic will be similar in that respect.

Ah yes, slash fic. I should have added that little caveat in there. I'll actually read that stuff, but I end up being super picky in how it's executed, which leaves very little for me to read (this is what happens when so many of your friends live in a world where slash is the bestest thing evar). Gen or het hurt/comfort is SO much better in my opinion *g*

That does sound like me. I wouldn't nitpick the particulars so much as just beg for more. :)
