And... More On The Hamlet Front

The latest from the RSC:
Latest news at 3 Jan: David Tennant has made good progress following his recent back operation and began some rehearsals yesterday in preparation for his return to the title role in Hamlet. He is rehearsing again today and although there are no guarantees, at this point we are not ruling out that he may be able to perform this evening, Saturday 3 January. If he does, Edward Bennett will return to his original role as Laertes, along with Tom Davey, Ricky Champ and Robert Curtis who will play Guildenstern, Lucianus, and Francisco.
We will be assessing David's return to each Hamlet performance next week on a day by day basis. Please check our website from 10am each day for an update on that evening’s performance. The production ends its run at the Novello Theatre on 10 January.

Date: 2009-01-03 03:43 pm (UTC)Probably more then likely he'll do most of the shows.... Dang... Ed Bennett really wasn't that good as Hamlet for me, but at least I had DT's performance of Hamlet to compare it to from Stratford.
So, so tempted to try for returns... but is it worth it? Probably not, especially if he is being assessed each day!
Ohhh, and one other thing: Seuls update any time soon? :D ;) (Nah, I can wait!)
I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year! :D

Date: 2009-01-03 04:04 pm (UTC)Personally, I think DT's probably anxious to show that he's not suffering from any permanent disability, and therefore very eligible for casting in future tv/movie/stage productions. Combine that with his work ethic, and I'd guess he trotted directly over to the theater for rehearsals just after his check-up. Professionally, I hope he's not making a mistake by rushing back - he's not even 4 weeks post-op yet.

At least you were able to see one performance, right? I imagine after he gets through his first show, he'll do all subsequent ones.

I'm thinking about delaying another week, actually. Still haven't decided, but thanks for asking! :)

Date: 2009-01-03 10:52 pm (UTC)Let's just hope David doesn't injure himself further by going back to quickly! Obviously he would have had to have been passed fit by his doctors and insured I think, so they must be confident that he is able to get back on stage.

Yeah, it was the best night of 2008. But you're right at least I have seen him.

Please don't delay a week! Can you not update on Tuesday for just one day? And then go back to Wednesday for the following week? Pwetty please? (I think you said you couldn't update on 7th Jan because it's your husband's birthday?)If not, I'm sure I can wait, but it feels like its been a long time since you last updated! And I don't intend to pressurise you into updating either :)

Date: 2009-01-03 11:20 pm (UTC)Absolutely. He must be doing well in rehab to get a work release that quickly. I imagine he'll still be under restrictions, though.

My original schedule was to update on the 7th, but there's a few kinks to work out yet with one of the characters. I've been doing some major slacking since the news came out yesterday that we'd have the announcement in regards to Eleven today, and stuffs just aren't getting done. Apologies! Tell you what, I'll give you a spoiler of your choice - since I doubt anyone is going to be looking at this particular entry for info on 'Seuls'. Fair trade?

Date: 2009-01-03 11:30 pm (UTC)Well, you can't say fairer then that! If you still need to work out some things then you should take the extra time! :)

Now that is tempting to take you up on the offer... but I think I'm going to pass... mainly because I wouldn't know what to ask anyway, and I think I'd rather be surprised. :) Thanks for the offer though! I will wait patiently for an update! Besides getting back to work next week will mean the time flies by faster then! :p

Date: 2009-01-03 04:41 pm (UTC)I'd rather seem him healthy and off stage then on stage and screwing up his back more.
