The latest from the RSC:

Latest news at 3 Jan: David Tennant has made good progress following his recent back operation and began some rehearsals yesterday in preparation for his return to the title role in Hamlet. He is rehearsing again today and although there are no guarantees, at this point we are not ruling out that he may be able to perform this evening, Saturday 3 January. If he does, Edward Bennett will return to his original role as Laertes, along with Tom Davey, Ricky Champ and Robert Curtis who will play Guildenstern, Lucianus, and Francisco.

We will be assessing David's return to each Hamlet performance next week on a day by day basis. Please check our website from 10am each day for an update on that evening’s performance. The production ends its run at the Novello Theatre on 10 January.

Dang it!!!!

Probably more then likely he'll do most of the shows.... Dang... Ed Bennett really wasn't that good as Hamlet for me, but at least I had DT's performance of Hamlet to compare it to from Stratford.

So, so tempted to try for returns... but is it worth it? Probably not, especially if he is being assessed each day!

Ohhh, and one other thing: Seuls update any time soon? :D ;) (Nah, I can wait!)

Personally, I think DT's probably anxious to show that he's not suffering from any permanent disability, and therefore very eligible for casting in future tv/movie/stage productions. Combine that with his work ethic, and I'd guess he trotted directly over to the theater for rehearsals just after his check-up. Professionally, I hope he's not making a mistake by rushing back - he's not even 4 weeks post-op yet.

At least you were able to see one performance, right? I imagine after he gets through his first show, he'll do all subsequent ones.

Absolutely. He must be doing well in rehab to get a work release that quickly. I imagine he'll still be under restrictions, though.

Now that is tempting to take you up on the offer... but I think I'm going to pass... mainly because I wouldn't know what to ask anyway, and I think I'd rather be surprised. :) Thanks for the offer though! I admire the fact that he's so dedicated, but I still think he should be worrying less about work and more about getting better to the point that he doesn't make anything worse.

I'd rather seem him healthy and off stage then on stage and screwing up his back more.
