*novels dutifully added to watch/basket at both Amazons* If what Russell semi-joked about during the podcast for TND is any indication, I wouldn't necessarily assume these are the last Ten books. I could easily see the BBC taking up the old 'Missing Adventures' mantle and continuing to publish Ten-era books so long as they're popular. If they can keep churning out Martha books well after that ship has sailed, I don't know why they'd abandon Ten so quickly.
*still irritated they wasted a Donna novel on crap that happened during the third series, can you tell?*
I can see why they mightn't want to open up a Ten II/Rose can of worms, but I'd love to see those become books or audios or both. Same thing with what Rose was going through leading up to Turn Left.
Speaking of which, and not that you're not busy with other stuff, but I have a fic challengesque post here about TL, and another post that could be construed as a fic challenge, especially for fellow Old Schoolers.
My take on the DVD thing being outed is that it's meant to be a signal for people to start writing to seriously beseech the Beeb (or whomever) to get their act together.
I'm not sure how a Stateside Hamlet run would fit in alongside the filming schedule for Who. If the filming dates for the Easter special are any indication, the other specials will also need to start filming about three months before airdate. Unless the next 2009 specials aren't airing until, say, Christmas, that leaves a rather petite window for a US Hamlet. Although it's possible they might film back-to-back or close to back-to-back for Easter and whatever the next special is (I'd assume the August bank holiday).
Given the length of time DT was out, I'm not surprised he's getting swamped now. This is basically all the relatively local people who would've come out on other nights being crammed into just a few dates.
I'm sure he'll take a kerfuffle at the door over being a virtual prisoner inside the theatre like he was in Stratford, though. I hope the new theatre comes with secret escape tunnels!
