Catching Up!

Late to the game on this one, but just in case you haven't seen them yet, here's the covers/synopses (courtesy of Outpost Gallifrey) for the latest round of DW BBC novels, due to be released in September:

The Taking of Chelsea 426 by David Llewellyn

The Chelsea Flower Show: Hardly the most exciting or dangerous event in the calendar, or so the Doctor thinks. But this is Chelsea 426, a city-sized future colony floating on the clouds of Saturn, and the flowers are much more than they seem.

As the Doctor investigates, he becomes more and more worried. Why is shopkeeper Mr Pemberton acting so strangely? And what is Professor Wilberforce’s terrible secret?

They are close to finding the answers when a familiar foe arrives, and the stakes suddenly get much higher. The Sontarans have plans of their own, and they’re not here to arrange flowers...

The Krillitane Storm by Christopher Cooper

When the TARDIS materialises in medieval Worcester, the Doctor finds the city seemingly deserted. He soon discovers its population are living in a state of terror, afraid to leave their homes after dark, for fear of meeting their doom at the hands of the legendary Devil’s Huntsman.

For months, people have been disappearing, and the Sheriff has imposed a strict curfew across the city, his militia maintaining control over the superstitious populace with a firm hand, closing the city to outsiders. Is it fear of attack from beyond the city walls that drives him or the threat closer to home? Or does the Sheriff have something to hide?

After a terrifying encounter with a deadly Krillitane, the Doctor realises the city has good reason to be scared.

I'm guessing these will be our last novels with Ten - I hope not, but I think they will be. *sniffs*

Next up: [livejournal.com profile] lucyd3, here's your link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1110263/Wheres-Tardis-need-David-Tennant-gets-mobbed-hundreds-fans.html

Eeeeek! Poor DT! I'm assuming you've seen the pics of fans blocking Georgia Moffet's getaway car from (I think) Friday night? And tonight is the last night of Hamlet, and it's looking like there will be no DVD. Part of me is clinging to hope that this is because they're taking the show on the road, but no word yet. I can't even begin to imagine the insanity that will occur outside the theater today/tonight.

And this is from some insanely bored browsings yesterday in designated 'safe' areas while waiting for some tests to come back: http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20090109/sc_livescience/womencansmellamansintentions

Someone must write a fic about this. Just not me! XD

And finally, it looks like the sprained left wrist will be requiring surgery. *headdesk* Unfortunately, my mother will be undergoing a bilateral knee replacement in February, and I'm already going to be flying home for that to help out/provide moral support and whatnot. Maybe I'll be able to get it fixed in March, if it'll wait that long.

*novels dutifully added to watch/basket at both Amazons* If what Russell semi-joked about during the podcast for TND is any indication, I wouldn't necessarily assume these are the last Ten books. I could easily see the BBC taking up the old 'Missing Adventures' mantle and continuing to publish Ten-era books so long as they're popular. If they can keep churning out Martha books well after that ship has sailed, I don't know why they'd abandon Ten so quickly.

*still irritated they wasted a Donna novel on crap that happened during the third series, can you tell?*

I can see why they mightn't want to open up a Ten II/Rose can of worms, but I'd love to see those become books or audios or both. Same thing with what Rose was going through leading up to Turn Left.

Speaking of which, and not that you're not busy with other stuff, but I have a fic challengesque post here about TL, and another post that could be construed as a fic challenge, especially for fellow Old Schoolers.

My take on the DVD thing being outed is that it's meant to be a signal for people to start writing to seriously beseech the Beeb (or whomever) to get their act together.

I'm not sure how a Stateside Hamlet run would fit in alongside the filming schedule for Who. If the filming dates for the Easter special are any indication, the other specials will also need to start filming about three months before airdate. Unless the next 2009 specials aren't airing until, say, Christmas, that leaves a rather petite window for a US Hamlet. Although it's possible they might film back-to-back or close to back-to-back for Easter and whatever the next special is (I'd assume the August bank holiday).

Given the length of time DT was out, I'm not surprised he's getting swamped now. This is basically all the relatively local people who would've come out on other nights being crammed into just a few dates.

I'm sure he'll take a kerfuffle at the door over being a virtual prisoner inside the theatre like he was in Stratford, though. I hope the new theatre comes with secret escape tunnels!

That sucks about your wrist! Aigh.

Owie. you sprained your wrist? :(

Hope your wrist feels better:(

Well, as I said elsewhere, everyone was very nice to each other and I think polite to David too on Wednesday. Yes we were packed in, but there was no pushing or shoving, when he came out we were calling out that he was great or fantastic. And when he said that was enough and went to the car, we called out to say thanks. Yes we are desperate to see him, but I think we were pretty good that night - I'm sorry people got ott on other nights, though tbh I didn't see anything that terrible in that article!

As I recall, there is a quote from Tennant (at the stage door in Stratford) saying he didn't see the point to a DVD as that would invalidate the "theater experience."

So ... that may be where some of the finger-pointing is coming from.

Okay, here's where I admit that I haven't been reading the 10 books at all. (And given the industry I'm in, that's embarrassing.)

If I am to start picking some up (and I've heard a number of them are actually rather decent), can you recommend a bunch to get? Amazon gift certificate, ho!

You have no need to worry about the September novels being the last for Ten. They won't be. He will have the December ones and most likely the April 2010 ones as well (they pushed back the Donna novels until September 08 so they could get the character right, maybe they will do the same for 11? Matt Smith doesn't make his debut until Spring, and DT's last episodes are not due to air until December 2009/January New Year 2010.

Yes, I'd heard about the fans blocking Georgia Moffett's car on Friday while DT was trying to get to it. Haven't seen any pictures of that though... Apparently she was at the last performance last night with Catherine Tate... had no word on the stage door yet but I bet it was hectic.

Hmm... not too sure about Hamlet being taken on the road elsewhere though... mainly because some of the cast has been hooked up for the RSC 2009 - 2011 season unless they do it with brand new cast but keep DT, but then it wouldn't be the same.

This is probably a stupid question... but have you hurt your wrist then? I hope you don't require surgery for it. :( I hope its okay for you.

Ouch. Having wrist issues myself, I deeply sympathize. Good luck with the eventual surgery.
