Catching Up!

Late to the game on this one, but just in case you haven't seen them yet, here's the covers/synopses (courtesy of Outpost Gallifrey) for the latest round of DW BBC novels, due to be released in September:

Photobucket

The Taking of Chelsea 426 by David Llewellyn

The Chelsea Flower Show: Hardly the most exciting or dangerous event in the calendar, or so the Doctor thinks. But this is Chelsea 426, a city-sized future colony floating on the clouds of Saturn, and the flowers are much more than they seem.

As the Doctor investigates, he becomes more and more worried. Why is shopkeeper Mr Pemberton acting so strangely? And what is Professor Wilberforce’s terrible secret?

They are close to finding the answers when a familiar foe arrives, and the stakes suddenly get much higher. The Sontarans have plans of their own, and they’re not here to arrange flowers...

The Krillitane Storm by Christopher Cooper

When the TARDIS materialises in medieval Worcester, the Doctor finds the city seemingly deserted. He soon discovers its population are living in a state of terror, afraid to leave their homes after dark, for fear of meeting their doom at the hands of the legendary Devil’s Huntsman.

For months, people have been disappearing, and the Sheriff has imposed a strict curfew across the city, his militia maintaining control over the superstitious populace with a firm hand, closing the city to outsiders. Is it fear of attack from beyond the city walls that drives him or the threat closer to home? Or does the Sheriff have something to hide?

After a terrifying encounter with a deadly Krillitane, the Doctor realises the city has good reason to be scared.

I'm guessing these will be our last novels with Ten - I hope not, but I think they will be. *sniffs*

Next up: [livejournal.com profile] lucyd3, here's your link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1110263/Wheres-Tardis-need-David-Tennant-gets-mobbed-hundreds-fans.html

Eeeeek! Poor DT! I'm assuming you've seen the pics of fans blocking Georgia Moffet's getaway car from (I think) Friday night? And tonight is the last night of Hamlet, and it's looking like there will be no DVD. Part of me is clinging to hope that this is because they're taking the show on the road, but no word yet. I can't even begin to imagine the insanity that will occur outside the theater today/tonight.

And this is from some insanely bored browsings yesterday in designated 'safe' areas while waiting for some tests to come back: http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20090109/sc_livescience/womencansmellamansintentions

Someone must write a fic about this. Just not me! XD

And finally, it looks like the sprained left wrist will be requiring surgery. *headdesk* Unfortunately, my mother will be undergoing a bilateral knee replacement in February, and I'm already going to be flying home for that to help out/provide moral support and whatnot. Maybe I'll be able to get it fixed in March, if it'll wait that long.

[identity profile] roxyk630.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
AS SOON as she gets photoshop running on Vista *headdesk* Working on that though. I keep getting their "tech office" during "out hours" even though they say they have tech support 24-7. LIARS!

*hughug* Welcome back!!!! I was wondering where you'd been.

Poor DT. XD; It seems no matter what career one chooses there well always be ONE thing that frustrates you about it. I'm sure he loves his fans but... sometimes their enthusiasm might be a bit unnerving. XD;

*gigglesnort* There's ways of remedying hands being out of commission... ;)

*hughug* Welcome back!!!! I was wondering where you'd been.

Eh? Haven't been anywhere! You just haven't posted anything for me to comment on!

Poor DT. XD; It seems no matter what career one chooses there well always be ONE thing that frustrates you about it. I'm sure he loves his fans but... sometimes their enthusiasm might be a bit unnerving. XD;

Somehow, I doubt it'll stop just because he's not going to be on DW any more.

*gigglesnort* There's ways of remedying hands being out of commission... ;)

Oh? I'm waiting for the punchline now! *grins* Should I lock this post?

Still? *hates Vista with a passion*

Windows 7 public beta is open. It's a free download.

You just haven't posted anything for me to comment on!

*cough*Chapter6ofSeuls?*cough*

Somehow, I doubt it'll stop just because he's not going to be on DW any more.

He won't have to deal with the generalized Who fandom as much, but as for his fans? They'll still be around.

Oh? I'm waiting for the punchline now! *grins* Should I lock this post?

Me, I was thinking you have a husband who can wait on you hand and foot, but mebbe that's just me.

[identity profile] roxyk630.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
My concern is that it's not just a Vista Error. It may be the fact that it's a new computer and the program's been registerred one too many times... but the customer service guy couldn't help me with that... they keep having to switch me to Tec support. Tech support is only in Mon-Fri 8-5pm (even tho it says 24-7 :P) So I'm running into some issue getting ahold of them on MY schedule. Here's hoping Monday frees up. XD;

*COUGH COUGH*AGREES WITH PRIN CHAPTER6SEULS?*coughcough*

Yeah... I agree with Prin on that too.

XD; And That's what I was thinking. "You get someone else to 'take care' of you! :D" OR *grin* "I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now..."

Here's the general Adobe troubleshoot for CS3 on Vista, if you've not seen it already:

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401488&sliceId=2

Have you deactivated the program on your computer that you're no longer using? Transfer activation

If you are transferring an activated copy to a different or new computer, you can transfer the activation to the new computer. Go to the Help Menu of the application and choose Transfer Activation. You will need an internet connection to complete the activation transfer process. Upon completion of the activation transfer, your existing product installation will be rendered unusable, and you will be able to install and activate the copy on the new computer.

Have you been doing your install as an administrator on your machine? If you're trying to install it as a regular user, you probably don't have sufficient privileges for everything Photoshop needs to do.

Have you tried copying the install folder to the desktop and running it from the desktop (again, as an admin)?

[identity profile] larissa-j.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I've already gone through this with her ;)

and she's running CS2 which has a different more draconian activation scheme which takes a snapshot of the drive partitions.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I've already gone through this with her ;)

Ah didn't know.

I'll be skipping from Photoshop 7 all the way up to CS4 in the next couple of months, although at least I don't have Vista to contend with.

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeeek. I am, unfortunately, of no help there. Give me a train wreck any day, but computers? I'm clueless.

*COUGH COUGH*AGREES WITH PRIN CHAPTER6SEULS?*coughcough*

*laughs* Second person!

The only problem with having the left wrist/hand out of commission is not with work (I have staff and can dictate if I have to), but more with the kidlings, esp. the baby. She is a mommy's girl and is going through a stage where she wants nothing to do with daddy. It's sad!

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* Second person!

I think people are trying to be polite and not nag you. :)

She is a mommy's girl and is going through a stage where she wants nothing to do with daddy. It's sad!

Boys are icky, part 1.

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Boys are icky, part 1.

I'd like to think that's the case, but she'll go to her papa and Uncle Scott fairly readily, but if there's a choice between mommy and daddy? It's mommy every time. My eldest was the opposite - it's weird.

[identity profile] roxyk630.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
XD;;; Yes, and I agree with Prin, didn't want to nag!

BTW, CONGRATS on the teaspoon approval! :D

awwwwwwwwwwww! XD; I think all girls go through the "I only want mommy" stage at least once. Mine.. lasted a bit longer but that delves into many ... "deeper" seated issues.

*hughug* I'm sure she'll love Daddy again...someday... when she's forced to carpool with her sister and still can't date until she's 83... on second thought... ;) jk!

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Nagging's OK - I do tend to forget about stuffs sometimes. *grins*

BTW, CONGRATS on the teaspoon approval! :D

Pbbbbbt! That was silly. At least it went through before Chapter 7 gets posted! I'm thinking about not posting there anymore, actually. BTW, do you know if the Teaspoon folks are in any way affilited with the CoT awards that everyone seems to be gushing about?

I think all girls go through the "I only want mommy" stage at least once.

Heh. I just spent the last 3 DAYS alone with baby (Daddy and the older two were away skiing this weekend), so it'll be worse than ever. *grimaces* Although, her vocab is quite good for just turning two in October. They asked me at her two-year-old check up if she was able to string together two words for a sentence, and I'm afraid I laughed at them. Example of one of Keira's sentences: 'No, no Daddy - you are yucky. I want Mommy!' All this while swinging her tiny fist in the air. Trufax!

I'm still running XP on the workhorse laptop, but the hubby's Big Computer of Doom is running Vista. I try to avoid using it, but I have to for work purposes sometimes. *grumbles*

*cough*Chapter6ofSeuls?*cough*

I think you're the first person who's missed it! Ok, maybe the second.

Me, I was thinking you have a husband who can wait on you hand and foot, but mebbe that's just me.

I'm already very spoiled. He made duck empanadas last night (yes, from scratch) for dinner last night. He isn't the best at cleaning up after his cooking extravaganzas, but they were very good, so I won't complain.

We had the niece visiting us earlier this week, and she's now hooked on DW (it's my duty, right?). We just happened to be watching 'Bad Wolf' and her reaction to Cap'n Jack and the defabricator? "Ewwwww! He looks like Uncle Paul! Ewwwwww!" She ended up watching from between her fingers. *grins* And, of course, the hubby happens to walk in at that moment, and we're both dying laughing at him. Classic.

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I try to avoid using it, but I have to for work purposes sometimes. *grumbles*

We haven't done Vista at work yet; they've only just put everyone on Word 2007.

My husband's new laptop has 64-bit Vista, but both of our desktops are XP.

He made duck empanadas last night... He looks like Uncle Paul!

Okay, your husband makes empanadas from scratch and looks like John Barrowman? Somebody's very lucky!

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sticking with XP for as long as I can.

Okay, your husband makes empanadas from scratch and looks like John Barrowman? Somebody's very lucky!

And we won't talk about some other *cough*traits*cough* of his that are also common to JB and DT... *laughs*

[identity profile] principia-coh.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs*

I'm going to guess you're not talking about cleft chins! BWAH!

[identity profile] roxyk630.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... its... ugh. I'm thinking it may be more a 'new computer' issue than a Vista issue. It's been stated on Adobe's site that my CS2 package won't work on Vista? BUT They noted the specific programs that wouldn't work and I just didn't install those. I think now it's an issue of having registered the program once too often and now I need a new serial #/passcode.

XD; well you know what I mean. Not Physically... just... LJ wise? XD;
And true... I haven't posted a ton. Mostly Memes. XD; Sadly I miss my ART programs I want to work on them... but... for the first-time ever... I can't! Which is odd. XD;

Yeah, I agree. He's still going to have his OWN fans to deal with... but some of them may reduce if he sticks to just theater. *thinking of what you and Prin discussed earlier with RSC Hamlet DVD's* And, XD; If he's anything like me? I'd probably refuse to put a play I was in on DVD as well. Not for any particular reason... just because of my own silly belief. For me? Theater is theater? The passion and wonder of it is because it IS fleeting. You can only catch it at a certain time/place... which is why it's so energetic and special. As much as I'd love to see that show on DVD... it just wouldn't have the same passion as it did on stage. BUT... if they did a film? Something "different" but similar? Oh hell I'd totally do/buy that. If they released RSC's Hamlet on DVD I'd buy that too... but... The memories I have from it are so much more than the DVD can do.

XD;;; See below! :D

[identity profile] roxyk630.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I have been. ;) I'm the only user account on the compy at the moment (admin acct) but I'm getting there slowly. When I called adobe Tech? They told me CS2 will under NO circumstances work with Vista. So... I'm going to be missing what I consider my left hand until it ships.

XD;

It's a bit tricky to post pics/links when I'm away from the regular computers - esp. when I'm doing the corporate gig. I don't want to leave tracks on their servers, so I have to be a bit sneaky. That and I get interrupted All The Time there. Makes it a bit difficult.

I'd buy it regardless. Esp. if it's the only way I'd get to see it! *is envious*

XD;;; See below! :D

What? *looks below* What?

No. They just need to clear the restriction on the activation server. You should be fine. The current problem appears to be that the temp file the script uses for activation is missing and that your partition information has changed so the second process (activation server validation is failing).

You can't activate too many times. You can trigger activation too many times with a different partition makeup but as long as you can prove you bought the software, you're legit. You bought a license, not a license for a specific machine.

You're legal.

The only time you run into trouble is when you buy OEM OS licenses which are tied to hardware.

Yeah, I had to update. Their tech guys said that CS2 just will NOT work on Vista.

Which seems stupid but... it never hurts to update?

*shakes head at adobe support* Here's the facts from Adobe's own site.

http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/adobe_products_and_windows_vista.pdf

Q. Does Adobe support Adobe Creative Suite 2 on Windows Vista?
A. Adobe Creative Suite 2 was released almost two years before Windows Vista became
publicly available and is not recommended for use on this new operating system. While
some of its components, including Adobe InDesign CS2, Illustrator CS2, and Photoshop
CS2, install and run under Windows Vista with only minor known issues, other components
such as Acrobat 7.0 Professional do not support Windows Vista.

From their own site:

RELATED PRODUCTS SUPPORT FOR WINDOWS VISTA HOW IT RUNS ON WINDOWS VISTA
Adobe Creative Suite
2.3
Installs and runs on Windows Vista with some
known issues. No patches for Windows Vista
support expected. Creative Suite 3 with full
Windows Vista support expected to ship in
Spring 2007. Find out about any known issues by
searching the Adobe knowledgebase at www.
adobe.com/go/support. Enter the keyword Vista.

In essence, you were sold an upgrade because they won't support CS2 on Vista and they won't provide you with the workarounds via support. Adobe has the right not to support their product on Vista but I take issue with misleading a customer about it to sell an upgrade.

Although, if you were going to upgrade anyway... it's all good?
Edited 2009-01-19 05:43 (UTC)

[identity profile] roxyk630.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
I kinda figured that was the case, because that's what I'd found research wise before I'd installed. Basically when I told the tech guy what happened he told me CS2 wouldn't work with Vista (which I think was just their way of getting around having to give me a new serial key? Since I'd technically installed on one too many computers or... whatever I'd done).

I was going to upgrade anyway? XD; I have a freelance project coming up...and this just gave me an excuse really. I will admit? I would have put it off longer if I COULD have... but... I hit a point after the 3rd call that I went "yeah. okay. done." since their tech wasn't overly supportive. Customer service? Freaking FANTASTIC. Support? not so much.

The nice thing was since I upgraded before February I got a 200$ discount... so instead of it costing me 799$ in Feb-Whenever (normal price). My upgrade only cost me 599$+taxes (free shipping) so that wasn't AS bad as I'd anticipated. I'll take a 200$ price drop any day. And I'm technically no longer under the student licensing as well (not that it made a HUGE difference unless I got sued for using it and freelancing). So I COULD legitimately go "HEY! I'm going to quit and FREELANCE! (if cost effective XD;)"

I'm also not TO horribly upset... because... since I'm buying it (in a rush) so that I can WORK on this freelance project (OMG THANK YOU OTAHYONI) I can use it as a tax writeoff, since it will be a business cost. Same with use of my computer, etc. All in all I'm okay with it... just... not overly enthusiastic about calling Adobe Tech support anytime soon?

[identity profile] roxyk630.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
PS: MEANT TO COMMENT! Congrats on the awesome roommate that gives you AWESOME WHO STUFF!!! XD; I've always been curious about the shooting scripts! I'm just not sure I'd find time to sit and read them. XD; *eyes the saddeningly large amount of comics she's yet to read*
