Now that I have two fic things going on simultaneously, I've committed to a Prompt of Doom for editrx, involving some form of Ten/Rose, the Pogues, h/c and a sonic going off at the worst possible moment. That said, the wonderful Rich doing The Ten Doctors comic series came up with this little gem on Friday, specifically designed to trip my trigger, of course (note Shy!Ten's rather becoming blush in the second-to-last panel).







And now I'm enamored of the idea of writing a Ten vs the White and Black Femme!Guardians who look curiously like Martha and Rose! *headdesk* Ten waves it off in the subsequent pages (darn it!), but I'm thinking about the possibilities here. And there's quite a few. *headdesks some more* Would anyone read such a thing?

Yes, it's All Your Fault! *grins* I'm just trying to decide how much cooperation there would be. And if it should be pre- or post-Series 4.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....I think if it had been post Series 4? Donna may have been in there somewhere? If that makes sense. Unless he's "visualizing" his guilt for Martha and Rose (Martha= ruining her life, as he says in S4, and Rose= Sending her away?)

Otherwise I'd go with Pre S4, possibly sometime in S3? Since Martha's with him, he'd visualize her, and since he misses Rose? He'd see her too? :3 And he'd be vulnerable enough to cooperate with both :3

Mmmmmm... this is true. It *should* be between S3 and S4, as otherwise? He'd be feeling a craptacular load of guilt over what happened with Donna, so therefore he'd be visualizing her as well.

And vulnerable enough to cooperate with both... I'm surprisingly ok with that. *grins*

It's definitely interesting, but I think I'd be careful about Martha as Black Guardian...it's an old trope that the darker skinned person is the bad guy, so to speak. (And one that's problematic for a number of reasons.)

Oh, wait, I see they're reversed in the comic. Need more coffee. Hell, after RaceFail, I'm kind of leery of writing Martha or Mickey. (Which is why I'm really nervous about ch. 11, since so much of it is from Mickey's point of view.)

Another set of possibilities is to use the gallifreyan gods. Kind of controversial, but they do choose other champions.

Possibly for the sake of visual contrast more than anything else, but yes, 'Martha' is the White Guardian.

It would make sense (even if it would invite a different sort of wank) to have Rose be the Black Guardian, particularly if the BG is trying to either tempt or coerce the Doctor into doing something he ordinarily wouldn't. Which isn't to say it would work any better than when Lilith pulled her stunt in TSC, but who knows?

If you wanted to remove the whole Rose-Martha dynamic from the equation, you could always make someone like Jabe or Joan into the White Guardian.

The White Guardian tends to be more of the beneficent sort of temptations (or strident lectures)... if you wanted to set it post-S4, maybe the White Guardian could offer to fix Donna?

I'm not even going to get into the wanky fandom implications of the author having made Rose the Black Guardian, but there could be a story there.

Assuming anyone reading this who wanted to see it has seen it by now, not marking for spoilers.

I was referring to his comment after Martha dispels Infinite!Ten: "Oh, don't even try to find my heart's desire." Or the three-year period during which he was stuck on the prison planet. Or the necessary gap between his arrival on The Infinite and locating Martha—would the ship have already tried to show him his heart's desire, and he simply didn't want it rehashed in front of Martha?

Rose!Black Guardian could even be BadWolf!Rose!Black Guardian, if the temptation were the Guardian offering to go fetch her for him, or to reorder time so that she never left, or something of the like. Or perhaps to fetch her and to turn her enough Gallifreyan that a) they could share a true mind bond and b) that they'd have a like lifespan.

Particularly if this were another not!THANTH fic, and we were operating under the assumption there's been limited to no intimacy between the Doctor and Rose at that point. You'd have the White Guardian's little innocent 'oh we're just the bestest of friends' Rose appealing to his chivalry, and the Black Guardian representing what he could have had and could still have with a rather more womanly Rose...?
