In my universe, the Doctor believes that he is sterile, and that there's no way he'd get Rose pregnant - BUT - there's an interesting event and the end of Lungbarrow, so never say never, I guess.
Going white, for non-book-spoiling:I actually thought for the first part of The Girl in the Fireplace that where they were headed with that whole thing was that Madame de Pompadour was not, in fact, the original MdP but was the kidnapped daughter of Leela and Andred who'd been dropped off in the past for some nefarious purpose - hence why she was able to read the Doctor's mind while they were linked.
Sadly, nothing that interesting actually occurred, some of which was TPTB poo-pooing Steven Moffat's original explanation for what was going on because it was 'too complicated.'
