Sad tidings, indeed. But, as they say, the show shall go on! I'll be incredibly depressed to see him retire the Doctor, but a part of me finds it fitting that he should leave after the departure of Rose and their story. Time for a clean slate, I suppose, and I'm curious to see who they choose to replace those beloved white chucks.
