I'm glad RTD has had a plan for the regeneration for a long time -- maybe it'll prevent some of his usual Big Epic Mess syndrome. (I love the man, but he does Epic badly.) He said in his book that he knew Ten's last words, and there were even some signs that they edited that email to make it "what his last words could be" rather than "what his last words will be," or something like that (would have to look up reference), so I've had the feeling that he's had this planned for a while, and that it was always going to happen during his tenure as producer. Whatever happens, I think I'll probably be satisfied with it. If S4 hadn't ended as it did (with Donna, most particularly, but certain aspects of Rose's departure as well), I think I'd be ready to let Ten go. As it is... not quite as much, but at least we've had time to prepare.
It's awfully annoying that we're having to go from Easter to Christmas without a thing, though. They could've done quarterly specials and not left a big gap, and we wouldn't all feel so deprived! Even if the finale were a two-parter around Christmas and New Year's, a nice Fall special (even a cliffhangery one!) would have been awesome.
