For those of you who have iTunes/might download iTunes in the future/are interested:

As you may (or may not) have already been aware, the commentaries for the Doctor Who episodes have been available directly as podcasts on iTunes. The subscription for Series 3 has ended though, and to get the new Series 4 commentaries, you'll need to re-subscribe. I'm not sure if iTunes is the same for other countries, but here's directions for the US version just in case you might find them helpful:

-Open your iTunes program, go to the iTunes store.
-Click on 'Podcasts'
-Look on the left hand side for 'Featured Providers', click on 'BBC'.
-'Doctor Who' is about 5 or so pages into the available BBC content. The podcast subscription is titled 'Doctor Who: The Commentaries', from BBC 7 (it looks as though it is the new radio show scheduled for Sundays, so we might not get the commentaries on the day of episode broadcast like we did before).
-Click on 'Subscribe' and confirm.
-That's it! You should now have the commentaries for each episode automatically downloaded to your iTunes program - just make sure you open the program once a week so that the show gets downloaded. Happy listening!

The program on BBC7 is ostensibly not the same as the actual commentary accompanying the episodes, but rather a recap/discussion of sorts - which sounds exceedingly odd to me, but I suppose we'll find out this weekend!

It's the only one I could find! I'm secretly hoping that it'll have the actual commentary plus extra stuff, but I gess we'll have to wait and see.

If push comes to shove and they're having to do the same streaming-only deal with the actual commentaries, I have software to record the commentary from the stream, as I did for VotD.

I'm completely blanking on the name of the software - I'd had a post up at a certain location that I forgot to copy over to the new iteration of said place that had had the details. I'll find out when I get home.

Thanks - I did manage to get it after much searching just after Christmas. I was just surprised (and somewhat peeved) that it didn't show up automatically as part of the subscription.

No worries - whenever you get a chance (also working - bleah). I'm still behind the learning curve on stuff like this. *is not a computer geek*

FYI, I checked today and it appears they're using the BBC7 podcastness as a runaround to be able to make the commentary downloadable - you just have to jump through a few hoops to find it.

I believe the software I was using before is called StreamDown. Folks may still find it useful for such things as the interviews currently up on the main site. I also used Audacity to clean up the file (get rid of all the blank space at the beginning and end).

Which we all appear to have crashed earlier, 'cos they've got a 'technical difficulties' message up - if you go straight to the site, it dumps you on the archive page as the start. Go us!
