Well, you have this option with things as they are: hat-in-hand to Lyra, whom he feels terrible asking (as though he'd be taking advantage of her good nature, which he kind of would), whose tenuous hold on whatever connection she had to Rose could/would be bolstered by Ohica basically pulling more of the Roseness out of the Doctor's head and putting it into Lyra's? They would probably feel as though they owe him.
