Name For New Companion?

There's some whispers going around that the name of Karen Gillan's character on DW will be....

Amy.

I don't have confirmation yet, so best to treat this as rumor right now.

Lots of places, but this one was dropped very matter-of-factly in a long-winded ranty email on a mailing list. I don't know how reputable the source is, but they imply strongly that the companion's name is Amy and she's human.

Amy?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that be a more typically American name than English?

Dunno. I'm just the messenger passing along rumors today. :)

It almost sounds like someone is trying to out-Rose Rose if he can't get his way in casting. (Assuming his original implications about the casting of Matt Smith were accurate, and that he and Piers Wenger were presented with a small group of preselected people by the BBC from among whom they were allowed to pick.)

I thought she was supposed to be "Scottish" not that someone Scottish can't have any damn name they want but ...

I would have expected Amelia her Royal Highness the Princess of whatever.

not saying that still can't happen, mind you.

I wouldn't put making her a secret princess past him.

One would think that if they were going to go to the trouble of having a Scottish character they'd give her a characteristically Scottish name, but SM has never seemed especially proud of his origins (note his lack of accent, when he's from the same town as David Tennant).

Heh. She'll certainly be special. We already know that though, don't we?

IDEK. Whatever Moffat. I guess she's a really hot *rolls eyes* Scottish actress that "all the boys want the girls to be" playing a companion who isn't Scottish? It's not like David isn't playing a non-Scottish Doctor but RTD didn't go on about "how hot" he was as a "Scottish" actor and how all women wanted their boyfriends to be David and then cast him as a non-Scottish Doctor later.

Eh. This is sort of amusing but also getting a bit boring.
