Lots of places, but this one was dropped very matter-of-factly in a long-winded ranty email on a mailing list. I don't know how reputable the source is, but they imply strongly that the companion's name is Amy and she's human.
It almost sounds like someone is trying to out-Rose Rose if he can't get his way in casting. (Assuming his original implications about the casting of Matt Smith were accurate, and that he and Piers Wenger were presented with a small group of preselected people by the BBC from among whom they were allowed to pick.)
I would have expected Amelia her Royal Highness the Princess of whatever.
I wouldn't put making her a secret princess past him.
One would think that if they were going to go to the trouble of having a Scottish character they'd give her a characteristically Scottish name, but SM has never seemed especially proud of his origins (note his lack of accent, when he's from the same town as David Tennant).

Heh. She'll certainly be special. We already know that though, don't we?

IDEK. Whatever Moffat. I guess she's a really hot *rolls eyes* Scottish actress that "all the boys want the girls to be" playing a companion who isn't Scottish? It's not like David isn't playing a non-Scottish Doctor but RTD didn't go on about "how hot" he was as a "Scottish" actor and how all women wanted their boyfriends to be David and then cast him as a non-Scottish Doctor later.
Eh. This is sort of amusing but also getting a bit boring.
Not to alarm anyone unduly, but the first thought that came to mind here was that this name means "beloved." Not that SM is necessarily thinking along those lines if this really is the name, but if it is -- oh, dear.

He named the last one River Song. I figured he was going as safe as possible and after "River Song," I don't think he puts that much thought into naming them, do you?

Date: 2009-07-01 07:46 pm (UTC)Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that be a more typically American name than English?

At least potentially...
