The missing scene from THANTH is DONE!!!! It's off to the ever helpful and shiny betas for sprucing up and for help in deciding the warnings to slap on as well as to decide how it should be posted/distributed, 'cause it is very, very wrong. Not as bad as it could have been, but still... it's just wrong.
I'm feeling terribly dirty right now. Maybe another shower would help.

Date: 2008-07-16 10:38 pm (UTC)There's a plethora of circumstances under which it would be appropriate to a plot for the Doctor to be tortured, even to the point of breaking: it would serve as a linchpin for hurt/comfort fics, to be sure. I think the only reason we don't see it more often is because of the continued perception by a lot of folks that it is, to a certain degree, a children's show.
When the entirety of a fic reads like a borderline snuff film, and it's clear the author must be taking a sadistic glee in writing the graphic torture scenes because that's all there is to the 'story'... that's just not on.

A time honored trick of scifi writers. Not to mention the Doctor could try to be all rational and yak at Rose about how fascinating the stuff is, and how similar it is to X, Y or Z from Earth ('...galaxies away, but they evolved the same tactic for dealing with similar prey...').
I'm just trying to think of ways to make it less squick-inducing for you as a writer.
