I am baffled about all the fanfare about Ten's final line. I didn't care for it (though apparently from what people have reported from Confidential, the delivery could have been worse).
And strangely enough, it doesn't begin or end with the letter 'n'. Didn't RTD say something of that sort this summer? I wonder if there were any last minute changes.
I'm optimistic about the new guy...I think we'll have a return to the absentminded professor type, like Five. At least he struck me like being a bit like Five already.
But, meh, I don't like change, as paradoxical as that may seem.
I hate change, which is why I found it so hard when Nine left, and I really dislike it when people go on about how the show is about change, blah blah blah. The show's just made a virtue of necessity, allowing it to survive cast changes; sure, that's become part of the mythology, providing for dramas and whatnot, but it's not the point of the show. As soon as an actor's in the role, all everyone talks about is when he'll leave.
I'm hoping MS gets a fair shake, but I'll admit the loss of Ten still stings. It's amazing that a silly little television show can affect people like this.
It's hard. I never quite got the Ideal Ten Episode I wanted, but I suspect that RTD and co had largely explored their full range of possibilities. The stuff we wanted and never got, we probably were never going to get. I might've liked to see some more Ten under Moffat, though.
I'm fine with liking more than one iteration of the show, and I think I'll probably enjoy S5. Maybe in a different way than I've enjoyed 1-4, but I'm sure there will be things to like. But I'm not really ready to be looking forward yet. I haven't even watched the trailer. Surely there's some room for a middle ground between "I will never watch that terrible new fake Doctor Who" and "DIE RTD DIE IT IS MOFF TIEM NAO," but I'm not seeing a lot of it in fandom.
I'm in the middle. I remember the especially chilly reception DT got after CE's abrupt departure, and look how that ended up, right? Hopefully cooler heads will prevail eventually.
Now I'm curious as to what your Ideal Ten Episode would be. :)

But in the good news department, The Last Voyage has shipped from Book Depository!
