and I *am* working on 'Not Here' - really! But in the meantime, here's some more spin on the possibility of a DW movie, all based on comments made by Steven Moffat at the Edinburgh Television Festival last Saturday.

He (Moffat) added he was preparing for the “dreadful day” when Tennant decides to leave but refused to say whether it will be in the 2010 series.

While there has recently been speculation over how long current Doctor David Tennant, right, intends to stay in the role on television, it’s widely expected he would play the part in a future film.

“It’s well known that David would love to play the Doctor on the big screen,” says our series mole. “David has obviously played such a huge part in Doctor Who’s success recently and he certainly wouldn’t want to pass up on the chance of appearing as him in the cinema.”

Moffat has Hollywood connections with Steven Spielberg and said he would love to sign the director up to the project.

So... eeks. Personally, I doubt it'll happen, but.... *shrugs*

I want to say that anything would be better then the 8th Doctor movie. But I'm not so sure about that.

After watching that movie... I just want those 2 hours of my life back.

I didn't think it was quite that bad, aside from the horrid plot. I would've loved to have seen more with Paul McGann.

For me, it was practically torture *g*

I wouldn't have minded Paul McGann. As long as they ditched everyone else associated with that flick. At least there are audiobooks.

I'm starting to think that I'm the only one who liked the character of Grace Holloway....

It wasn't that I didn't like her.

It was more... there was so much potential there, not just for Grace but for the entire thing, and they just dropped the ball at every turn.

That's true. I can't say I was a big fan of the plot. *cringes at Snake!Master*

I think the movie was fairly dreadful, though it could have been a lot worse (I've read The Nth Doctor). But it did have Paul McGann, and it did contain the seeds of some good ideas. You can kind of see the bones of the new series in it, even though little of that's well-realized in the movie itself. I'm glad they didn't do a complete reboot, but some bits (like the half-human thing) survived from back when it was going to be a reboot, and ended up not making a lot of sense in the context of the series. And the final version was awfully keen on the context of the series; the first few minutes are so heavily loaded with continuity references that I can't imagine it appealing to anyone not already familiar with Who. Compare all the background piled on before the credits even start -- the Doctor, the Master, Skaro, Time Lords, Gallifrey -- with what we learned in "Rose." I think RTD was brilliant about reintroducing things slowly, keeping up some mystery, and staying focused on character. Coming in from the companion's point of view rather than the Doctor's -- heck, that's why there are companions. Not changing lead actors ten minutes into the show. Etc. That said... without the movie, I wonder if things would have evolved the way they did?

Y'know, in retrospect it's very, very easy to find things to not like about the movie. I remember at the time, though, I was so excited that DW was coming back, I really didn't care that much about the shortcomings of characterization, plot, etc. Now that we have the luxury of seeing how things *should* be done, it puts the movie in an entirely different light. That said, it'll be interesting to see what changes Steven Moffat brings about to the show - possibly we'll be having a similar discussion after Series 5?

Oh dear. I'd love to see David in the role on the big screen, but the problem with that is they always have to make it for people who've never seen the series, and that usually ruins them. So I just hope if it happens Stephen Moffet really sticks to his words and protects the show. If David does it I think he wouldn't let them make a total @#@$@## of it - he loves the show too much himself.

Now on to really important matters - where's your next story?!!!!! 'cause there's one thing the show just can't do and that's our gorgeous Ten being adoringly described amidst the excitement of a fanfic! Mtemplar, push push PUSH!

I don't think it'll happen, myself, but if it does, I hope everyone's learned a lesson from the FOX movie.

Heh. Part 1 (yes, that's part ONE of probably two) is out for beta. It might take a while to make it look halfway decent. Part 2 is in the works; Ice Planet fic is completely outlined and I have to make a difficult choice on an icon. *taps fingers thoughtfully* Maybe we'll have to have a vote.
