The Microfic Meme - shamelessly stolen from
lil_1337!
The subject? DW, of course! *laughs*
Angst: "Rose, no," he murmured as he clutched her tightly.
AU: "This'll be interesting... with the two of you," Rose said.
Crackfic: "Doctor, you've regenerated into... a cat," she said in disbelief.
Crossover: "Remove your TARDIS from my ship - at once!" Picard bellowed.
First Time: "Rose, I... oh," he said as she sank onto him.
Fluff: She softly kissed his temple, trying not to wake him.
Humor: "Ah, Jackie... thought you were... erm, I'll just be going."
H/C: Cool fingers curled around hers. "Shhhh... it's ok. Lie still."
Smut: "Oh!" she cried out as his clever tongue teased her.
UST: He swallowed hard, watching intently as she devoured the banana.

Date: 2009-01-12 10:02 pm (UTC)When we went in 2006, the MGM Grand smelled very, very nice (that was actually one of the things I commented on). We almost stayed at the Mandalay Bay, except we couldn't get a room for one night during the trip. It turns out Photoshop World was there, so it would've been a zoo anyway.
Caesar's Palace was also not smoky, but the thing was lit like a batcave. Seriously, way, way, way dark. I didn't get it at all.

Date: 2009-01-12 10:40 pm (UTC)The hubby usually stays at MGM when he goes - he gets a lovely suite that he always has to then call me about. Grrrrrrr! Wynn and The Venetian are also awesome. Haven't been to Caesar's palace, and maybe that's a good thing.

Date: 2009-01-12 10:53 pm (UTC)I suspect he stays in the West Wing/Tower (whatever they call it). We stayed in a regular room, which was well past large enough.
The one I recall as not being particularly smoky, but tight enough that if you were anywhere near the smoking tables you smelled it big time, was Paris. Paris has many other things to recommend it, but I wouldn't do table gaming there.
We ended up schlepping up and down the Strip a lot - we didn't get south of the MGM Grand, but we at least looked around in... thinking back...
MGM Grand (that's where we were staying)
Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood)

The Venetian
Stardust
Caesar's Palace
Rio
Treasure Island

Date: 2009-01-12 11:06 pm (UTC)Probably so. He enjoys telling me that the room is bigger than our house.
And what? Aladdin is now Planet Hollywood? What happened to the market? That was cool! *frets* And you must go to Luxor - they have a really neat Egyptian exhibit there that you can walk through. The gaming isn't very good there if I recall correctly, but the extras/decor are awesome.

Date: 2009-01-12 11:13 pm (UTC)Planet Hollywood bought the Aladdin and was in the process of redoing the whole place while we were there.
I don't know what, if anything, they kept of the market... but if there ends up being a Whovian gathering for the end of the Specials, we might well find out!

Date: 2009-01-12 11:32 pm (UTC)Man, that stinks. The decor for the market was like something from Indiana Jones and was absolutely amazing. I doubt they would have kept it like that.
if there ends up being a Whovian gathering for the end of the Specials,
That'd be tricky around the holidays....

Date: 2009-01-12 11:56 pm (UTC)That's already been the subject of some conversation; not only would it be crap timing for anyone who cares about spending time with their family, but it's also a busy and expensive time of year for Vegas.
It is more likely that there'd either be something for the penultimate Special, or afterwards - like in mid-January.

Date: 2009-01-13 12:24 am (UTC)Maybe a Series 4.5 wrap-up
angst-festparty might be a better idea?(no subject)
Date: 2009-01-13 12:42 am (UTC)Not according to my research, unless you're dumb enough to go during one of the ginormous tradeshows like CES.
That's what the Series 4.5 wrap-up party would be: a get-together post-Specials. People were kinda talking about doing one for the second-to-last Special (not counting the 2-partness of the last Special), which would probably be during either the end-of-summer Bank Holiday (which is the weekend prior to Labor Day), or at some indeterminate point during the fall.
Given that we're talking about folks from all over the country, it was decided that Vegas was a relatively inexpensive destination that was also hospitable during the winter months.
The trickiest part is the fact that the BBC is being so deliberately cagey about the timing of the Specials. If we at least had some idea of when the last Special would be airing, we could at least start looking at planning something concrete.
As part of the general get-together, we were planning on finding out what it would take to rent one of those conference rooms with the fancy video setup for watching the Specials on.
