What it sounds like to me is that the discs might actually be region-free, but who knows?

Hrm. This might be worth testing.

I was sort of hoping that the 'extra material' would be relevant to the episodes contained on the DVD for each issue, but I've glanced through the online stuff and it doesn't appear to be the case, unfortunately.

Actually, looking at the sample of Issue 1, they do get a little bit into the episodes on the disc, but it's mostly pictures.
