Summary: He's gone....
She wakes in the late afternoon, blissfully headache-free after the previous evening's disaster. She's decided to seek him out, under the guise of thanking him for seeing after her when she had one too many at the club, but also to apologize. She still feels sick with the thought that she hurt him, but she'll make it up to him. She's entertained fantasies of just the two of them, alone in the deserted countryside, or perhaps walking together along a pebbled beach... getting to know each other all over again. He's a different person now, after all, and she has a lot to learn.
But she finds herself standing in his empty rooms - his bed is neatly made, and the jumbled clutter that normally adorns his writing desk has been cleared away. She finds the sight of the clean desk strangely disturbing, and alarm bells begin to toll in her head. Her mum has warned her that he might get tired of waiting for her, yet she's firmly believed that he'll always be there for her. Now she isn't so sure. For a brief moment, she wonders if her mother was right, but dismisses the thought. He's probably off tinkering with Lord knows what, or perhaps playing with Tony in the garden, she tells herself. Disappointed, she decides to head for the kitchen for a cup of tea to soothe her nerves before grilling the staff for information as to where he might have gone.
Maybe she can still surprise him.
She spends the remainder of the day looking for him without success, and ends up heading to work the next morning, exhausted and drained after a sleepless night filled with worry. He's still missing, and she does her best to ignore the growing ache in her chest.
***************
There's a storm that blows through that night, its gusty bursts of rain lashing at the window panes like a cruel thing that's glad to hurt. Rose peers out into the gloom to no avail - there's still no sign of him. Jackie has been strangely quiet the entire day, and even her infant brother seems out of sorts. The cold wind rattles the windows, and she pulls her robe more tightly around herself, wondering if he's sheltered from the storm.
She pads quietly down the dark hallway to his room for the umpteenth time knowing he won't be there, but unable to resist the urge to check again. His bedroom is dark, the normal faint golden glow absent. Her breath suddenly catches, and her eyes widen in realization - the small piece of coral is gone. A quick search of the drawers of his desk show that his cobbled-together version of the sonic screwdriver is also missing. Her heart in her throat, she throws open his wardrobe and sees that his blue suit is absent, while his new topcoat is hanging to the side, forgotten.
She hurries out of his rooms and practically runs down the stairs to Pete Tyler's study.
***************
"Rose! What are you still doing up at this hour?" Pete inquires, startled, when she bursts in unannounced.
"I... I need some help," she stammers, not sure how to voice her suspicion.
Pete raises an eyebrow. "Rose, I've got three teams out looking for him. If he doesn't want to be found, there's not much we can do." His eyes soften as he takes in her fatigued appearance. "You have to be exhausted - go back to bed. I'll wake you if there's any word."
"No, I can't! This is all my fault... I've made a terrible mistake," she insists, shaking her head. "But I think I know where he might have gone."

Where did he go!? *wibbles* Okay, DEFINITELY want to know more. EEEEEEE! Okay, gonna agonize on this for a bit. SILLY DOCTOR, running off. Sounds like Rose knows where to hunt him down tho... :3 Thats a relief... I think.

Date: 2009-05-21 10:11 pm (UTC)Oh, come now. You know where he went. *grins* And so does Rose.

Date: 2009-05-21 10:27 pm (UTC)Warning 1 : This fic is made of more awesome than you can comprehend and may lead to spontaneous self combustion
and
Warning 2 : This fic will leave you hanging off a cliff or possibly even a mountain for unspecified periods of time. Bring plenty of rope and supplies.

Date: 2009-05-21 10:39 pm (UTC)I did warn for angst! *takes rope and supplies - might need to make use of these later*
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-21 11:35 pm (UTC)And whilst this was by no means boring as i doubt anything you write could be seen as that way, it was more a general multi purpose warning as i happen include you in my top 2 fan fic writers of all time and thus think you are pretty much just generally made of awesomeness.
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-21 11:48 pm (UTC)Really? O_0 This is very kind of you to say. *hugs* I should send you some of the Bee!fic that's in progress - I've sent it to 5 folks, have heard back from only 2 after a week, so my confidence is well and truly shot. :(
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-22 01:18 am (UTC)But... the rest ...
You Evil, EVIL woman with your bloody cliffhangers. *snorts in frustration*
Ooo Rose you'd better fix this one and quick. I've said it in your other 'Moment's' fic's she's gatta grow up and claim him before someone else does.
*whistles*
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-22 01:56 am (UTC)And don't worry - Rose'll fix it! Dang, now I'll have the Handy Manny theme song in my head. O_0

Date: 2009-05-22 02:22 pm (UTC)So, did Jackie ask him first, or did Pete decide on his own that having an upset Time Lord-Human hybrid wandering about causing trouble wasn't such a great idea?
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-22 02:50 pm (UTC)And Ten II isn't wandering. He's busy.

Date: 2009-05-26 08:07 am (UTC)And poor TenII and *cough*cough*ocean*cough*cough*storm*cough* ... So does TW have like an automatic "search and rescue" for TenII whenever he goes walkabout or what?
So nice to hear "Lorelei" again (I think all my Pogues CDs were part of the two bagsful that got stolen when we had stuff tucked away while the workmen were renovating here. Stupid kids probably didn't even want them and threw them out when they saw my rather eclectic musical tastes. *sniff*)
More? Soon? Please?
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-26 03:01 pm (UTC)And no, there's no automatic 'search and rescue' for Ten II - Pete's just worried about him. :)
WHAT?!? Pogues CDs thrown out?!? That should be a crime!
More is in the works - maybe another two or three short parts depending on how wordy I get.

Date: 2009-05-26 04:09 pm (UTC)Yes, I surfaced for air while doing that all-nighter; needed breaks and went directly to your LJ to see what you were up to. I mean, to see how how you were doing. :)
And no, there's no automatic 'search and rescue' for Ten II - Pete's just worried about him. :)
I suspect after this incident, Pete may want to put an RFID tag on him.

Worse, part of those bags full of CDs had my Steeleye Span, Boiled in Lead, and, I think, all my old (re-released on CD) Mike Oldfield (I had them all). :( I'm sure the kids who stole them had no clue who any of those artists were and threw them out as trash. Sigh. I've been slowly rebuilding the collection via iTunes and burning new CDs from what I buy online. Still not the same, as I don't have the lovely covers and inserts that way.

::dances:: More, yes! I want to see the storm and TenII. Could be very interesting indeed. (Not that I see you going for subtext there *cough*oncomingstormbecomehuman*cough.)

This is all part of TW's new 'catch and release' tracking system, y'know....

Ooooh, that sucks. *is indignant on your behalf* I lost a Phillip Glass CD in a move once - that was traumatic enough for me! I can't imagine losing an entire box!

Ha! You saw my subtext? *grins* You won't see the actual storm - just the aftermath. ;)
