The new Doctor Who's companion is going to be called Amy and (drumroll, please) she'll have a Scottish accent!

Played by the lovely Karen Gillan, Amy will be assisting David Tennant's successor Matt Smith - who I reckon is going to be fantastic as the new Time Lord.

Rumours abound that there'll be some hot chemistry between them, just as there was with Rose and David's Doctor.

Steven Moffat, who's taking over from Russell T Davies as the show's boss, is a huge fan of the 21-year-old. He says she's "funny and clever and gorgeous and sexy.

"Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it." (He is, too.)

My on-set spy whispers: "Karen's Scottish so it seems reasonable she keeps her accent, even though David didn't."

The first picture of the pair in time-travelling regalia will be revealed on Tuesday... because filming on the new series starts on Monday.

Wasn't Stephen Moffat on the record for saying that that was an element of New Who that he didn't like even though he perpetuated it quite liberally in TEC and TDD?

I never know how I feel about this upcoming season. I find Moffat quite bi-polar in his writing. But perhaps he will be more consistant now that he's taken over.

He said that at some point, yes - although he seems to have no difficulty pairing the Doctor with someone other than the companion. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. *reserves judgement*

Hmmm, I'm not surprised that Moffat is all for "hot chemistry" between the Doctor and a female of his own creation. He does have to wash the bad taste of Rose out of his mouth and all... (oh wait, did that sound bitter?)

Wow, betcha that person on Fandom Secrets is going to be PISSED.

Maybe I'm just being a total cynic, but we've seen zero indications thus far that any of what Moffat is doing hews at all to the various claims he's made about How Things Would Be Done If He Were In Charge over the years in the various swipes he's taken at RTD's style.

Unless he pulls something out of his ass and she is, in fact, a secret space princess.

It's a community that riffs on Post Secrets. Basically people make pasteups/macros and post them to the community, and they're strictly on fandom topics.

The recent one a friend had posted about was a large postcard-size-and-shaped cropped picture of Karen Gillan with the TARDIS proclaiming in all-caps that if this companion turned out to be another normal girl from 21st century Earth they were going to stop watching the show.

Make that a Scottish secret space princess. *grins*

LOTS of places have a Scotland! Errr...
