According to the set reporters on GB, they just blew up the sonic, perhaps a bit too effectively. Matt Smith appears to have injured his hand. *wonders if this means we will be getting an Eleven II* Hopefully he's ok.
Again, we knew the sonic was going to have to be replaced at some point, in order for River Song waving the giant mutant permanent marker version of the sonic with red settings around in Ten's face. But blowing the old one to bits? Gimme a break.
Do the new PTB not realize how obvious they're being with their petty, spiteful conduct?
I'm a little surprised their effects department were allowed to kablooie something in Matt Smith's hand, to be honest. Is it not still Danny Hargreaves running that show?
Extra warning - the pics of sonic destruction do give a strong implication (as did the pics I posted before) of how Ten will meet his end. Might not want to look if you're very actively avoiding spoilers for the remaining specials. They'll be in a separate post.

I mean, we know DT got bumps and bruises and even punched a hole in his hand (courtesy of the desk bell in TIL coming apart while he was ringing it), but there's a difference between that and bad decisions from the production team leading to someone really getting hurt.
I can give you a visual, at least - MS is in a Statue of Liberty-ish pose, holding the sonic skyward, then sparks start shooting out. It's impressive even without CGI, IMHO. By report, Smith appears to be ok. *breathes sigh of relief*
Sounds like a sparkler jammed in the end of the prop or something. Those things get damn hot, make no mistake. I'm impressed he didn't drop it, so long as he's ok.
