Now I'm curious. Which regeneration was the first one you saw? And were you freaked out?

Wow, I don't remember. It's like I grew up with the concept, so it really didn't freak me out when it happened. First episode I ever saw was "Seeds of Doom," and like playtpus said, the PBS affiliate used to skip around a lot. For instance I remember seeing "Deadly assassin" then "Invasion of Time," skipping over a lot of the Leela episodes. (Ironically two of my favorite episodes. When we finally got a VHS, I wore those tapes out.)

That's weird. My station aired them straight through. Of course, I had to stay up late (for me) to watch them, but that's another story.
