Received an email this morning from the Book Depository saying that my preorder would be refunded, as 'the line has been canceled'. Anyone know anything about this? I did some digging around, and the Book Depository has yet to remove #4, along with subsequent releases from their site. Same story at Amazon UK. The Darksmith website has nothing, and appears to be functioning normally.

*grumbles* I'm hoping it's just that the BD has decided not to carry the line, not that it's actually being halted.

EDIT: Have heard from the Book Depository (did I mention I lurve them?) - apparently, they've run out of their stock, NOT that the series is being canceled. Will have to order Darksmith #4 from elsewhere, but I'm ok with that, as long as the series is still ongoing. So, I suppose my next question is for [livejournal.com profile] principia_coh - when did you preorder Darksmith #4?

At the more expensive price, of course....

They do seem to drop in price after a bit, though...and it's still cheaper than amazon. Or I'm just an addict. (Why, yes, I do check exchange rates on the pound daily...)

Ha! Yes, he is in finance. Feeling the pain, right now - but then again, so is everyone. Hence me working more than I'd like right now.

BUT... that said, market is showing signs of recovery. As the hubby said Wednesday morning, 'SADDLE UP!' Now's the time to buy stocks. Not that I know anything about them, just passing that on.

I certainly hope so. The job market is looking dire. :/

That'd be the last thing to recover in any given recession. Unemployment numbers will likely worsen in the near future.

Things will get better eventually, despite the stimulus plan as it is right now. IMHO, it prolongs the agony. The economy will recover on its own, with time.

All the mortgage-related hooha will be over by 2011, at least.

My beef with Amazon is that the US branch will sometimes end up delaying shipment for months on end at the very last minute; my most recent experience with AUK almost resulted in my shipment going back because it shipped from Amazon.de and they decided to ship it with signature tracking without telling me, so the thing sat at my Post Office for almost three weeks.

Oh nice. Not. :/ My post office *lost* the first shipment BD sent me. Then they replaced it, and 2 months later, my post office found the original. It took 3 tries for them to finally send it back. (Granted, the first time I forgot a customs form.)

But, then again, your post office is special. *grins*

You want "special"? My town got too large, and instead of building a bigger facility, the cheap bastards at the USPS decided to turn their holding center into a pickup gulag for people from the southernmost zipcodes in our town.

I say gulag not because the atmosphere is problematic (I could give a rat's ass if I can buy the latest postal tchotchkes when all I want is my package)—it's the hours. They don't open until 10.00 am, don't stay open later than 5.00 pm on any day, and are only open from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm on Saturdays.

*gnashes teeth*

That's unfortunate. Mine opens at 7am, closes at 6pm, and they have cookies. Shorter hours on Saturday, though - might be similar to yours?

Same here. If you work 9-5, you're screwed. god help you if a package or large letter comes and you're out of town, too.

Especially true if you're one of the majority of folks in the area who have to commute downtown. It's ludicrous.
