DW Ongoing starts up in two months - still no word on subscriptions from IDW, but here are the RI covers from the first two issues. The art for the first two-part story arc, 'Silver Scream', will be done by British artist Al Davison, and he's based the RI covers from old-style Hollywood movie posters - cookies to who can guess the film that the second cover is based on (one of my personal favorites!).

*has not seen said "cookies" film... but is it wrong that I am highly encouraged to do so? :3

I love silent films but I never know where to start. :3 Couldn't hurt to start there? :D "Safety Last" as stated above? Right?

"Safety Last", starring Harold Lloyd, circa 1923. Absolutely wonderful, I highly recommend.

Here's the actual pic:

*dances*

I love Lloyd - his films don't have nearly the depth that you'd see in a Chaplin or Keaton production, but his visual gags have held up well over the years.

What makes that particular pic interesting is the fact that Lloyd is actually holding on to the clock with only one hand - he lost part of a hand in an accident on set, and was fitted with a prosthetic glove. [/geek]

Chaplin and Keaton I've heard of! I need to get some of theirs too. :3

I have a place to start now though.

I'd go for netflix, if you were thinking about doing it anyway. Silent films are an aquired taste - might not be for you.

OR: If you have AMC, they have 'Silent Sundays' on Sunday nights. You could record/watch a few and see how you do?

Ooooh - misspoke. It is TCM (Turner Classic Movies) - they usually show silents on Sunday nights.

And I just quickly checked their schedule - they'll be showing some Chaplin/Lloyd shorts on the 24th.
