Seriously, though - I buy the box sets when they come out, so no foul, right? I just don't want to be spoiled.
I buy the boxsets and I set my DVR to tape the shows, just in case that data is collected on the sly by my cable provider. I therefore have zero compunction about early viewing.
*wonders if they collect Tivo data as well* I love Tivo. All I have to do is enter in 'Doctor Who' or 'David Tennant' or whatnot and it records everything. Love, love, love.
Mine isn't that fancy: it's a cable-company DVR. So I don't have anything trolling for programming for me. I just have to keep an eye out for it on me own.
The fun thing about Tivo is it tries to figure out your viewing habits, and records 'suggestions' for you. Most are lame, but it did record Billie Piper stuff out of the blue for me once. *grins*
It would be nice, because there's definitely been stuff from the various Whoish parties that's aired that I only find out about way after the fact. Versus if I could let my DVR do the work.
You can also hook it up to a home network for remote access via your work computer - if you should find to your dismay that you're at work and you discover something you reaaaaaaaaly want to watch is going to be on whilst you're away. *is Tivo-dependent*
I would do that if it were an option. To be honest, I'm a little surprised it's not something the cable company offers, at least to its internet access subscribers.
At one point TiVo was ostensibly going to be writing software for at least Comcast's DVRs, but I think that work got tied up in financial and legal troubles at TiVo.
