DW Ongoing starts up in two months - still no word on subscriptions from IDW, but here are the RI covers from the first two issues. The art for the first two-part story arc, 'Silver Scream', will be done by British artist Al Davison, and he's based the RI covers from old-style Hollywood movie posters - cookies to who can guess the film that the second cover is based on (one of my personal favorites!).

1st issue:

2nd issue:

(Name that film! I actually own it! *laughs*)

Definitely not bad of you ;) I was drooling a little, lol.

Ten needs to be tied up more often, IMHO. *grins*

*ahem* AGREES WITH ALL OF THE ABOVE.

quite vocally. :3

Is the film "Safety Last"?

I must admit that the tied up picture is what made me pause and stare a bit.

...but the Doctor doesn't normally wear a belt with his suits, as shown in the tied-up image. How sad am I that I know this?

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Cookies for you! Yeah, I'm a silent film geek. *hangs head* I can name most of the chars on the covers... that's how bad I am.

Note that he doesn't have the high-top converse either. We're both sad. But it's still a nice picture. :)

[identity profile] mizgnomer.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoo-hoo! Cookies! :)

Did you get to listen to DT & Catherine Tate interview Paul Merton about his "Silent Clowns" show when they were hosting for Jonathan Ross' over Easter? That sounds right up your alley!

You are absolutely right about the Converse too! I hadn't noticed that. It is still a very nice picture... A very, very nice picture...

Somewhere, there has to be a version of that picture without the writing over it.

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I looked around already and didn't find one. :(

I live in hope ;).

I wonder if someone's mad Photoshop skillz could do it... Ken's pretty good at that, but I'm embarrassed to ask! Might be a bit difficult considering the size of the picture, though.

[identity profile] elrina753.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ten tied up. YUM!

Although my first thought when I saw it was "is he wearing jeans and a t-shirt? Ten would never do that!" It took me awhile to figure out it was supposed to be the blue pin-striped suit.

And yes, they should tie him up more. Why does fandom always write about Ten being imprisoned and yet the show never really gives it to us? (and I just realized I'm asking a "children's show" to do "bondage" *headdesk*)

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
*drools with you*

Hrm... yeah, the clothing is a bit fluid. I thought it was Ten II's t-shirt for a minute, but then saw the tie.

and I just realized I'm asking a "children's show" to do "bondage" *headdesk*

I'm ok with that. Where do I sign?

Nine got tied up, shirtless, with lots of writhing. I do not see why Ten should get out of it.

[identity profile] elrina753.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I completely agree. We have been DENIED!

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, in all fairness, we did have a nekkid Ten II in Journey's End, but there was no bondage and no writhing.

*has not seen said "cookies" film... but is it wrong that I am highly encouraged to do so? :3

I love silent films but I never know where to start. :3 Couldn't hurt to start there? :D "Safety Last" as stated above? Right?

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Safety Last", starring Harold Lloyd, circa 1923. Absolutely wonderful, I highly recommend.

Here's the actual pic:

That could be interesting. Same scene got used in "Hudsucker Proxy," too, I think. (I'm a fan of the Cohen Brothers.)

[identity profile] mtemplar-fic.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It's one of the most famous images from the silent era - a man hanging from the hands of a clock as time (quite literally, in this case) runs out.... it gets used a lot.

I like these covers MUCH BETTER than the regs - I'm just hoping the interior art is good, but the sample pages I've seen? Hrm.

Is it wrong that I've been staring at tied-up Ten for the past 10 minutes?

Staring at that cover has given me fic-ideas! Oh dear!

Fangirls are scouring the net as we speak for a no-text version of that first cover, let me tell you!

So, what's with the device attaching his waist to the tracks? Is that supposed to be a belt? His suits are bespoke!

Anyway, for some reason (probably work-related), hadn't seen this 'til now.

Just got notification from The Book Depository that they have the updated Visual Dictionary back in stock, if you needed to order it.

Good luck - I haven't found one yet. I think someone with mad Photoshop skillz is our best hope.

So, what's with the device attaching his waist to the tracks? Is that supposed to be a belt? His suits are bespoke!

Obviously, Ten has done some shopping. He's also purchased some non-high top converse with the logo in the wrong place! *grins*

I think the UK release date might've been pushed back for whatever reason - Amazon US actually came out cheaper on this one, so I ended up preordering from them - will supposedly be out here on the 23rd. The folks at BD recently did another 'cancellation' of another title on me - with the same generic email from before when I inquired about a title that had been listed as 'processing' for over a month. *grumbles* Still, they usually come out with the best prices, if not the best of communication (or shipping speed, but hey - it's free).
